The Ghost Master assignment What Lies Over The Cuckoo's Nest requires that you get off to a fast start, otherwise this assignment could take a long time.
In this walkthrough, we will free the Darkling and get a Triple Jack-O-Lantern Ghost Master Scare Rating.

Important Locations:
The first thing to look at in our walkthrough is the layout of What Lies Over The Cuckoo's Nest, including the important locations.
1. The location of the Darkling
2. Binding locations for Hypnos & Hogwash
3. Location to place the Gift
The Darkling's Freedom
We start the walthrough by visiting the Darkling & taking care of the Professor. Have the Darkling only use Psychotic Rage, then turn off his powers.
To free the Darkling we must get all of the insane patients out of their rooms on the floor below.
Head for the ward on the right on the second floor
To free the Darkling we need to use a Trojan Gift to get Hogwash & Daydreamer onto the first floor of the asylum.
Bind Wisakejak to the kid on the second floor and then use Trojan Gift. Add Maxine Factor, Hogwash, and Daydreamer to the Gift. Only the people wearing green hospital garb go to the top floor, and one of them doesn't.
You need to get one of the people wearing green to pick up the Gift. You can use Maxine Factor's Obsession power to get them to come down from the Asylum. This will also draw down the Professor to open the door to the Darkling.
As soon as one of the green hospital workers picks up the gift, bench Maxine. Then use only the Darkling's Obsession power.
When the gift enters the Red Ward, bind Hogwash to theTV console and use either Surge or Sparkstorm. Also bind Daydreamer to the sleeping patient and use Sleepwalk.
That will free the Darkling.
All you need to do now is scare off everyone.

When revisiting the assignment What Lies Over The Cuckoo's Nest, simply bring your most powerful haunters and follow the walkthrough above. As long as you get the Gift up to the asylum the first time the people in green come down, you should be able to free the Darkling quickly.
Getting a Triple Jack-O-Lantern Ghost Master Scare Rating will then be a matter of having the scare power to empty the building fast enough.
